We thought we would add a video of our old/new wood cookstove...take a look.

We found this gem in the cottage of a local wood stove merchant.  These stoves are hard to find in our area, well, except for the new versions worth thousands complete with digital displays and gas burners instead of wood.  Not too many people appreciate the value of cooking and heating with wood.

With the new to us wood cookstove now installed it was time to try it out.  Our first attempt was a loaf of homemade bread.  There's nothing like the smell of homemade bread in the oven and we wanted that smell.

My Wood Cookstove

My husband came across this wood cookstove in a church one of his clients was restoring.  The client did not want it so my hubby brought it home with him.  With a little TLC (with help from Ernie's WoodStoves, Durham, ON), we got her restored and now using her to cook and heat our house.

This weekend we vacationed in Greg’s ancestral town.  The town bears the name of a famous Roman.  Although they pronounce it differently.  The Old House of Birds is still there, though a bit run down.  However a wonderful Aunt is working to restore it.  Since it is still furnished we decided to stay there.  We jumped back in time to somewhere in the earlier part of the 1900’s.  Heat from wood stoves, only cold running water in the kitchen sink and a wood cook stove for cooking. (obviously)

Cookery and the ability to prepare healthy and nutritious meals is an ongoing challenge out here beyond the grid.  Nope, we are not smoking possum nor braising 'coon.  In our efforts to avoid heart disease and other debilitating ailments,  we have become vegans.  Our goal is to grow and cook our own foods and basically avoid consuming anything with a face.
