Snow Load
I finally had to break down and climb up on the roof to shovel it off. We have had lots of snow and it managed to add enough weight to drop the roof a few inches and push a beam through a wall that separates our living quarters from the part of the building with the caved in roof. I took this as a sign from the old roof that, if I wasn't going to do something about the snow, it would not be held responsible for any eventual outcome.
Roof Buster
One of our self-sufficiency projects, perhaps the most pressing of them all, is to rebuild the roof. This is due to the fact that it fell in last winter under extreme snow load. The roof was not built properly in the first place so it didn't surprise us that it caved in. Actually, roofs caving in is not too unusual in this area. What happens is we get a real downfall and then the weather turns mild. It generally happens at this time of the year as winter is ending and you get the odd mild spell.
